With school starting soon bulletproof backpacks are being considered by parents. There have been too many tragic school shootings and kids need and deserve a way to stay safe.

Along with fire and tornado drills, school shooting drills have been put into action at schools all over the country. Knowing where to go and what to do during a school shooting is vital and can save lives. But, with the release of “Bulletproof Backpacks” do they truly work?

Looking at the facts they only work with handguns. Unfortunately statistics show many school shooters have used assault rifles whose bullets will go right through the backpack. Secondly, the backpacks are extremely expensive.

Lastly, in order for your child to be protected during a school shooting, the child would need the backpacks on at all times and that might be impossible to regulate.

If you ask me what needs to happen are better gun laws but how many more kids need to die for that to finally happen?
