Strange Occurrence or More of the Same???

This last weekend the NFL playoffs ended in what some people believe an upsetting way with two of the #6 seed teams winning games against very impressive teams.

The Indianapolis Colts went into a divisional opponents house down in Houston to play a very good Houston Texans team. The Colts took down the #3 seed in tremendous fashion going up 21-0 before halftime. Although the Colts were placed at the #6 seed they were the more sound team than the Texans. The Texans had the worst O-Line in the playoffs hands down with the Colts having the best O-Line. The Colts were able to protect their quarterback Andrew Luck and run the ball with Marlon Mack to ice the game.

The Philidelphia Eagles were the real story last weekend Nick Foles led his team against the number one defense in all of football and came up huge. Nick Foles didn’t play like a superstar, he held his own. But the Eagles defense was the real hero of the game holding the Chicago Bears offense to just 15 points. Nick definitely showed why he is the reigning Super Bowl MVP by going down the field and punching in a game-winning touchdown to the trade deadline man Golden Tate. Then one year ago we saw the Minnesota miracle but this year we witnessed the disaster on the Midway. Cody Parkey was lined up to take a 43-yard field goal attempt lined up ready to go, just before the snap Doug Pederson took his last time out to ice the kicker. That field goal went through and from all perspectives, Cody Parkey looked comfortable. Parkey lined up again set to take the kick and it was tipped at the line of scrimmage pushed just slightly to the right hit the upright bounced down, hit the crossbar, and bounced back out losing the game and allowing the Eagles to take out the Monsters of the Midway.

Now for so many analysts and fans and just anybody they were shocked by the outcomes of this weekend. But should they have been? Over the past ten years, the #6 seeds have won 17 games including the Green Bay Packers back in 2010 who won the Super Bowl that year. The #6 seed has constantly been a threat to a team who comes in the heavy favorites. Often times we look at these games and say this was a huge upset, but I personally believe that this game could fall easily on either side of the line. The NFL Playoffs is a brand new season anyone can win on any day so I don’t know why people get so surprised by a #6 seed taking down a #3 seed. These teams will be heading into the #1 seeds houses, the Colts will head to the Chiefs to face the #1 offense in football, and the Eagles will head down to the bayou to play the all-around dominating Saints. The Colts have played the Chiefs in the playoffs once before and the Chiefs blew a 38-10 lead to lose the game 45-44 on an Andrew Luck scoop and score touchdown after the two-point conversion was stuffed at the line of scrimmage. The Eagles will be looking for revenge against the team that ended Nick Foles insane season short back in 2013 the Eagles will look to do the same to them and continue on their dream run of a chance to go win back to back Super Bowls.
