Official Free Agency Moves

By March 13, 2019February 27th, 2024No Comments

To say that free agency was crazy would be an understatement. This year there were more big name free agents than any other year I can remember. Today at 4 pm EST all the deals that have been negotiated and worked on for the past three days will become official and will be carried out. So we are going to talk about the biggest moves that have officially just been made.

Nick Foles

Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles came in at the end of the 2017 season after Carson Wentz tore his ACL in the fourth quarter of a late regular season game. What most people assumed was the end of the Eagles hopes of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, but little did everyone know it was the beginning of Nick Foles revamping his career. Foles obviously led them to the super bowl won it caught a touchdown pass and just did everything. Then at the end of the 2018 season when all hope looked lost for the defending super bowl champions to even remake the playoffs Nick Foles returned and led them to the playoffs making it all the way to the divisional round. Because of this incredible feat, the Jacksonville Jaguars have gone all in on making Nick Foles their new franchise QB. The Jaguars gave a 4-year $88M contract and are looking to build their offense to match Nick Foles play style. The Jaguars are putting a lot of faith in Nick to take them back to the AFC Championship and get them a super bowl victory.

Landon Collins

The New York football Giants went all out this year and they are on this list twice for the biggest moves in football once for a move and once for losing a guy that truly benchmarked this franchises defense. First, we will be talking about Landon Collins. Landon Collins was a 3x pro bowler with the Giants and continuously made elite plays and was the all-out leader of this defense. The former second-round pick was offered a record-setting offer for nickel safties from the Washington Redskins a 6-year $84M deal. Landon Collins is trying to find a team that will at least win some games. The New York Giants have had back to back top ten picks and that’s not good for a team that is trying to get back into the playoffs. We shall see what the Redskins can do with their new safety.

Odell Beckham Jr.

This was the most incredible and unpredictable trade of the entire week. The news came out late Tuesday night the Cleveland Browns traded a first and third round pick this year and Jabrill Peppers. The Browns have done all but reload their entire team and build it around their first-round picks, Mayfield and Garret. Odell will be reunited with former college teammate Jarvis Landry. The Browns now have that elite number one receiver that will give Baker Mayfield a chance to grow his abilities to the next level and beyond. Odell will also try to restructure his deal to beat out Antonio Browns new deal to reclaim the title of highest-paid wide receiver in the league although that title may soon belong to Tyreke Hill. This news shocked the world and turned everything upside down.

Antonio Brown

The Pittsburgh Steelers traded away their elite wide receiver to the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders definitely underpaid for this trade just a third and fifth round pick this year is all it takes to get probably the best wide receiver in the league. After Antonio was signed by the Raiders he was then given a three-year extension on his contract which made him the highest paid wide receiver in the league.

Trent Brown

The Raiders also picked up another Brown at OT position. Trent Brown a former 7th round pick in New England was made the highest paid Offensive Lineman in the league. The Browns made a game-changing presence in Oakland and these guys are hoping to be the next best “GRUDEN GRINDERS!!!”

Le’Veon Bell

After a full season of telling the Steelers to shove their franchise tag somewhere very unpleasant, and sitting out an entire season the All-Pro running back has found a new home in New York with the Jets. Le’Veon found the deal he was looking for 4-year $52.5M. Bell will finally be back in action and we will see how that year off treated him.

These are just a few of the biggest deals and the most incredible things that can now become official as players have already started signing on the dotted line.
