Nubia Emmon has always known that she was born to perform and to become a singer. Musical talent has been in her family for many generations, where both her father and grandfather were performers. 5BC, which stands for 5 best cousins, was a group formed with Nubia and her 4 cousins. “We were all in love with music at the time. We wanted to be better than Destiny’s Child, the Cheetah Girls and TLC.”
Nubia’s goal is to become a household name in the R&B/Hip Hop industry. She started her own showcase for girls called, “Pretty Girls that Rock the Mic.” This showcase was designed to educate people on Breast Cancer Awareness, to inform them on what’s going on and to help people to be on top of their health. “I wanted to do something and to join a cause that I am passionate about,” and that’s exactly what Nubia did! The first show took place in her hometown, Austin, Texas, but Nubia hopes to make it into a tour in the near future.
When we asked Nubia what advice she had for our readers, she said, “I know it sounds like a cliche, but don’t let anyone stop you from letting your dreams happen. No relationship, illness, nothing. You don’t want to be stuck questioning what could have happened.” Nubia’s journey has been a lot of ups and downs, but she found it impossible to just give up on what she loves. She knows that there is a light and she wants to reach her goal no matter what it takes.
