Kansas State Basketball Season Preview

In Kansas, specific schools are dominant in specific sports: Kansas State holds down football, WSU holds down Baseball, and KU holds down basketball… usually. Kansas State is on the rise to shake things up in the Big 12 this year.

Last year K-State entered the basketball season with a full roster of young players including several freshmen. This team was said to be in a building season taking the young core of players they had and give them experience and prepare them for a future run through the NCAA tournament. However, last year’s team went miles further than expected. K-State made it all the way to the Elite Eight where they were stopped on their fairy-tale run by Loyola-Chicago. This year the K-State Wildcats look to go even further. The young core returned with a fire to get back to the season from day one. The tireless effort in the offseason is preparing them to be an even better team than last year. While preparing for this year coach Webber had this to say about his new team. “As a coach, as a staff, you’ve got veteran players back, you’ve got lots of minutes, lots of points, lots of experience. So it makes it easier on us as far as the teaching and now we’ve approached it a little bit different than how we have in the past, we have a few new guys that have to learn some stuff but with the older guys. We have tried to go as slowly as possible, not putting too much stress on them right now and building up as we get to practice.” The K-State players realize they have a tall order to fill this year and they are trying to align their goals to get them to the end result of winning the national title. Junior Forward Xavier Sneed said, “We have a big year ahead of us, of course, we’re trying to win the Big 12 championship first off, and of course we want to be undefeated in our conference.”  The Wildcats are aware that they need to focus on the small goals to later procure a high seed in the NCAA tournament. K-State is loaded with potential and are looking to prove it and take their team to the top of the NCAA ladder.
