The time of year has finally come! Fantasy Football has come. Here are the players to keep an eye on!
1: David Johnson, RB, Arizona Cardinals – It’s simple. If you have the first pick in your fantasy draft, you draft David Johnson. He is going to be used as a workhorse ball-carrier, receiver out of the backfield, and as an occasional slot-receiver. The Cardinals want to get DJ to the 1,000 yard rushing/1,000 yard receiving mark this year, according to head coach Bruce Arians. There is no downside to Johnson. Draft him and be happy.
2: Michael Thomas, WR, New Orleans Saints – The floor for Thomas is so safe with Drew Brees at quarterback. He is almost guaranteed over 800 yards and over 5 touchdowns. That’s if he is at his worst. His ceiling is well over 1,000 yards and 10 TDs. Being drafted behind Dez Bryant and Doug Baldwin, Thomas might just be the second-safest receiver in fantasy behind Antonio Brown.
3: Jordan Reed, TE, Washington Redskins – If Reed can stay healthy, he is a guaranteed top-2 fantasy tight end. Considering his injury history, I get the concern with picking Reed in the fifth round but look at his upside. The number one option on a potent offense led by Captain Kirk (Cousins) himself. Without a true running game, we already know that if Reed is out on the field, Cousins targets him. A lot. When playing a full game last season, Reed got over 20% of targets each week. That’s 1/5 of the total passing game!
4: Frank Gore, RB, Indianapolis Colts – What’s the opposite of a sexy fantasy pick? Frank Gore. Yet, he always finishes as a top-20 running back every year since 2007. The past two years he’s finished as the running back 12 in all of fantasy football. Going in the 6th round, Gore is the perfect second running back on a wide receiver heavy team. Andrew Luck will hopefully be ready to play by week 2, which should help Gore out a ton!
5: Danny Woodhead, RB, Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens have been riddled by injury this offseason, but Danny Woodhead still remains. Should something happen to Terrance West, Woodhead would be in line to grab all of the running work along with his unbelievable skills in the passing game. Hopefully, we see a big fantasy year from him.
Bonus: Kenny Golladay, WR, Detroit Lions – This is more of a hype player than anything else. Golladay has been running with the first team offense all offseason long and showed up scoring two touchdowns in the Lions first preseason game. I consider Golladay the biggest draft day steal, going virtually undrafted in most home leagues. Go and get yourself a share of Kenny G, who might end up as the number one receiver on the lions, who have gunslinger Matthew Stafford at quarterback!
