College World Series team introductions (Texas Tech and Michigan)

By June 13, 2019February 27th, 2024No Comments

Continuing our rundown of the eight CWS teams we are going to be talking about the two teams that are the last ones still standing from their respective conferences. The Big 10 and Big 12 each have one team in the running for the championship.

Texas Tech was able to host both Regional and Semi Regional tournaments. While Michigan had probably the toughest road to Omaha out of all the 64 teams. Michigan and Texas Tech will face each other in the very first game of the 2019 College World Series Saturday, June 15th at 2pm

Michigan is coming off of a huge upset victory taking down the number one overall seed in the entire Tournament. Michigan reached this point by winning, in last years CWS champions Oregon State’s home regional. After Oregon State opened their regional with back to back losses against Cincinnati and Creighton Michigan didn’t have to play against the home team and got out of there with a win. After escaping one of the most dominant baseball towns in college baseball over the past three years they went to take on the number one overall seed at UCLA. In the LA super regional Michigan took over the super regional by sneaking past UCLA in a game one victory of 3-2. Then in game #2 the Bruins took the Wolverines all the way to 12 innings to stay alive and force a game #3. In the decisive game #3 the Bruins looked to be in good shape building a 2-1 lead early but Michigan would strike back hard and heavy in the back half of the game scoring three unanswered runs and sealing their spot in Omaha. This will be the Wolverines first trip to Omaha since 1984 and they look to make it a more meaningful visit after losing in the first game in their last appearance.

The one and only team from the Big 12 to make it this far is none other than Texas Tech. The school that was on the championship stage for March Madness and was one win away from cutting the nets down in Minneapolis is back in another Elite Eight round. Texas Tech is trying to show the world that they are dominant in multiple sports. Texas Tech had a great time playing great competition in their home town through the Regionals and Super Regionals facing teams like Army and Florida taking on a big SEC school that finished in the middle of the pack of a very powerful conference in their Regional round. In their Super Regional they took on conference rival Oklahoma State. That series went to 3 games as well in game one Texas Tech beat Oklahoma State with a pretty offensively stacked game with the score being 6-8. OSU stepped back to TTU with a slim last inning win 6-5. Then in game #3 it was back to back to back lead changes. Oklahoma State came out in the second inning with a big solo home run then Texas Tech took the lead in the third inning. Then solo home run after solo home run back and forth each team held the lead several times throughout the game. Then finally in the top of the eighth inning for Texas Tech a 3-run home run snatched the lead and they would hold it till the end of the game.
